Document Detail Window Data Fields


Summary Info

ID: The unique COMPAS identifier of a document entry.

Format: The type of document file.

The value of this field is automatically assigned when the document text is delivered to COMPAS. Valid text types are ascii, frame, frame_book, gif, html, mif, msexcl, mspwpt, msword, msproj, pdf, postscript, roff, rtf, and other. The starting value is "not online" and changes when a copy of the document is placed into COMPAS.

Author: The name of authors of the document.

The authors are not the owner of the document. The document owner is the login of the person creating the entry. The owner can be changed to another owner easily by modifying the attribute field later.

Title: The title of the document.

This is a text field and is not required to be exactly the same as the title shown on the document.

Owner: The login id of the owner of the COMPAS entry.

The current document owner may transfer ownership to another owner. Document Coordinators and COMPAS Librarians for your project are able to transfer document ownership. Members of the COMPAS Team are also able to transfer document ownership.

Date: This date should be entered by the owner and agree with the date on the actual document.

Dates are in the the format: "mm/dd/yyyy" or "dd-mmm-yyyy".

Issue: The issue number for this document.

It does not have to be the same as the version number field and is a free-format field.

Size: The size of the entry in lines or pages.

Project Info

Instructions for Performing Updates: You are required to have valid values for all three Project Info data fields (System, Release, and Subsystem). These values are only valid in certain pre-determined combinations of all three data fields. The Project Info data fields may only be updated by choosing values from the drop-down menus. The three menus have cascading validation and will present you with valid choices. Note: according to the cascading validation, If you make a change to the value in the System field, then the Release and Subsystem fields will be blanked in preparation for your input. Changing the Release field value will blank the Subsystem field in preparation for your input. Therefore it is most logical and efficient to work down from the top in order: System, Release, Subsystem.

System: The name of the system or project for the document.

Release: The project release for the document.

Select the DownArrow button to get a menu of choices for this field.

Subsys: The name of the project subsystem for the document.

Select the DownArrow button to get a menu of choices for this field.

Type: The type of the document.

Select the DownArrow button to get a menu of choices for this field.

SubType: The subtype of the document.

Select the DownArrow button to get a menu of choices for this field.

Area: A descriptive area or logical community for the document.

This field is often used as a keyword field by many projects. It is a free-form field.

Proj Links: The Existence of Linked Projects

This field indicates that the document has related multiple project links - if the value is a numeral greater than 0. To see the related projects, select the Browse menu item and then choose Child Links or Parent Links.

Doc Links: The Existence of Logical Links to Other Documents

This field indicates that the document has related document links if the value is "yes". To see the related documents, select the Browse menu item and then choose Child Links or Parent Links.

Control Info

Control: Process-Control Indicator

The value of this field indicates if this entry is a process-controlled document entry. Process-controlled documents must follow a specific state-flow as described in COMPAS document id #30581 (NPR Document Control Procedure). The default value for this field is "no". If this document entry is to be process-controlled, enter the value "yes" in this field.

Versions: Version-Control Indicator

The value of this field indicates if this entry is a version- controlled document entry. Version-controlled documents will automatically store a new version each time the document is replaced or edited and older versions are retrievable. The default value for this field is "no". If this document entry is to be version-controlled, enter the value "yes" in this field.

Status: The status of the entry.

The default status is "draft" and may not be changed when entering the document. To change the value of this field, you must select the Options button on the Document Detail window.

Status Date: The date on which the status was changed for the entry.

This field is used in conjunction with the Status field.

Version: The version number for the document.

Each time a controlled document is edited or replaced, the version number increases by one.

Version Date: The date of the last version of a version-controlled document

Dates are in the the format: "mm/dd/yyyy". In the case where the document is not version-controlled, it is the last date the document was changed. This field is automatically updated by the system.

Open MRs: The number of open MRs against this COMPAS entry.

The number of MRs that are not in the 'closed' state.
