Inspection Details Data Fields


Inspection Detail information is divided into four screens.

Inspection Info

This window is used to enter, edit, or view an Inspection entry. Following are definitions of fields in this window:

COMPAS ID:
The unique COMPAS ID assigned to the document/code inspected. You cannot change this field value.

Insp Num:
The sequence number of the inspection. Generally, the sequence number 1 applies to the first inspection and subsequent sequence numbers apply to re-inspections. You cannot enter a value into this field.

Comment:
A free-form comment about the inspection.

Disposition:
The disposition of the inspection. Select the DownArrow button to get a menu of choices for this field.

Inspection Status:
Status of the inspection. Select the DownArrow to get a list of choices for this field.

Pretest:
The level of testing done before the inspection. This is an optional field, as some projects allow testing before inspections and others do not. Select the DownArrow to get a list of choices for this field.

Inspection Type:
Type of the inspection. This is different from the type of the document entry. Select the DownArrow to get a list of choices for this field.

First Meeting:
The date of the first inspection meeting.

Last Meeting:
The date of the last inspection meeting.

Number of Meetings:
Number of meetings used to complete the inspection. Meetings are recommended to be no longer than 2 hours. Thus, inspections that have many (e.g. more than 500) lines are inspected during more than 1 meeting.

Number of Participants:
Number of people actually participating in the inspection. This number includes author, moderator, reader, recorder, and all inspectors, and must be greater than 1.

Inspection Size:
The size of the document/code or code that was inspected, in pages or NCSL, respectively. Must be greater than 0 and less than 32768.

Special Prep:
Preparation time of a special participant. This field is optional and is separate from the "Prep Time" field. Each project chooses a special participant, whose preparation time is tracked. Since COMPAS does not know which participant's time is being tracked, project members must remember it themselves. The value is in decimal hours (i.e., 3.5 is three and a half hours).

Prep Time:
Sum of the preparation time of all the people who prepare for the inspection. The value is in decimal hours (i.e., 1.5 is one and a half hours).

Inspection Time:
The total meeting time for the inspection, in hours. This field should be entered after the inspection has been completed.

Rework Time:
Rework time. This is the amount of time spent by the author to fix any problems found during the inspection. The value is in decimal hours (i.e., 3.5 is three and a half hours).

HSF/NS:
The number of Highest Severity Faults per Normalized Size found in the inspection. Highest severity faults are defined by the project and size is either 1000's of lines of code, or 100's of pages. depending on the type of inspection.

Prep Rate:
Preparation rate for the inspection. This is determined by dividing number of pages or KNCSL by the total preparation time of all participants.

Insp Rate:
Inspection rate for the inspection. This is determined by dividing number of pages or KNCSL by the total inspection time.

Meeting Info

Moderator:
Name of the person moderating for this inspection.

Reader:
Name of the person reading for this inspection.

Recorder:
Name of the person recording for this inspection. This field is not required, and therefore may not have a value.

Inspector 1 and 2:
Name of the person assigned as an inspector for this inspection. Only one inspector is required.

Date, Time, and Place of the inspection(s)

Fault Info

Type: Choose a type value from the drop-down menu.

Severity: Choose a severity value from the drop-down menu.

Class: Choose a class value from the drop-down menu.

Document Info

Title:
The title of the document/code inspected. You cannot change this field value.
Author:
The authors of the document/code inspected. You cannot change this field value.
Doc Type:
The file format type of the document being inspected.
System:
The name of the system or project for the document/code. This field is for information only and you cannot enter a value.
Release:
The product release of the document/code. This field is for information only and its value cannot be changed on this form.
Subsys:
The name of the product subsystem of the document/code. This field is for information only and cannot be changed on this form.

If you are creating a new inspection, Enter values for all required fields. Next, pull down the "Edit" menu bar item and specify meeting dates, times, and places, and optional additional inspectors. After this, select the "File/Save" menu bar item. COMPAS creates a new inspection entry in the database.
