Inspection Statistic Queries

This window shows the fields that you use to query for a set of inspections for the purpose of examining inspection statistics. If you leave a field blank, you will retrieve inspection entries for every possible value of that field. Conversely, entering values for any of the inspection entry fields will restrict the search to those values. Regardless of what values you put into fields, the search will be limited to inspections with a status of "completed". Following are definitions of the fields in this window:

System:

The name of the system or project for the document or code inspected. For example, typing "sys85" in this field retrieves all document/code entries that have been created for System 85. Select the DownArrow button to get a menu of choices for this field. You may use the NOT operator with this field (i.e., !=sys85) to retrieve all entries that are not a particular system.

Release:

The project release for the document/code. For example, typing "R2V5" in the field retrieves all document/code entries whose project release is "R2V5". This field is often used in combination with the System field. Select the DownArrow button to get a menu of choices for this field. You may use the NOT operator with this field (i.e., !=R2V5) to retrieve all entries that are not a particular release.

Subsys:

The name of the project subsystem for the document/code. For example, typing "switch" in the field retrieves all document/code entries whose project subsystem is "switch." This field is often used in combination with the System and Release fields. Select the DownArrow button to get a menu of choices for this field. You may use the NOT operator with this field (i.e., !=switch) to retrieve all entries that are not a particular subsystem.

Comment:

Any part of the free-form comment for the inspection. All inspections with that pattern in the comment field (both upper and lower case) will be retrieved. For example, typing "delayed" retrieves all inspection entries with the pattern "delayed" in the comment field.

Doc Type:

The type of the document/code. For example, typing "design" in this field retrieves all design-type documents, and typing "code" in this field retrieves all code entries. Select the DownArrow button for this field to get a menu of choices. You may use the NOT operator with this field (i.e., !=code) to retrieve all entries that are not a certain document type.

Sub Type:

The subtype of the document/code inspected. For example, typing "appl_notes" in this field retrieves all application notes inspections. Select the DownArrow button for this field to get a menu of choices. You may use the NOT operator with this field (i.e., !=appl_notes) to retrieve all entries that are not a certain subtype.

Insp Type:

The type of the inspection. For example, typing "reinsp" in this field retrieves all reinspections. Select the DownArrow button for this field to get a menu of choices. You may use the NOT operator with this field (i.e., !=reinsp) to retrieve all entries that are not a certain inspection type.

Insp Status:

The status of the inspection. For example, typing "complete" retrieves all inspection entries that correspond to completed inspections. Select the DownArrow button to get a menu of choices for this field.

Area:

Any relevant part of the area or community for the document inspected. All document entries with the entered pattern in this field (both upper and lower case) will be retrieved. This field is often used as a keyword field by many projects. For example, typing "quality" in this field retrieves all document entries that have the pattern "quality" listed as a keyword. You may use the NOT operator (i.e., !=quality) with a pattern to retrieve all entries that do not have that pattern as a keyword.

Disp:

The disposition of the inspection. For example, typing "rework" in this field retrieves all inspection entries whose disposition required further rework. Select the DownArrow button for this field to get a menu of choices. You may use the NOT operator with this field (i.e., !=reinsp) to retrieve all entries that do not have a certain disposition.

Size Insp:

The size of the document that was inspected. You may also use operators with the size. For example, typing ">100" retrieves all inspection entries whose inspection material was more than 100 pages of text or 100 NCSL.

Num Part:

The total number of participants in the inspection, including the moderator, reader, and recorder. You may also use operators with this field. For example, typing "<9" retrieves all inspection entries with less than 9 total participants.

Num Mtgs:

The number of meetings for the inspection. An inspection can have up to 5 meetings. You may also use operators with this field. For example, typing ">1" retrieves all inspection entries that had more than one meeting.

Prep Time:

The total preparation time for all participants in the inspection, in hours. You may also also use comparative operators with this time. For example, searching for "less than 6" retrieves all inspection entries whose total preparation time was less than 6 hours.

Insp Time:

The total inspection meeting time for the inspection, in hours. You may also also use operators with this time. For example, typing ">2" retrieves all inspection entries whose total meeting time was more than 2 hours.

Rwk Time:

The total time needed to fix faults found in the inspection, in hours. You may also also use comparative operators with this time. For example, searching for "greater than 2" retrieves all inspection entries whose total rework time was more than 2 hours.

Pre Test:

The amount of testing done on the material to be inspected prior to the inspection. This field is most meaningful for code. Typing "minimal" in this field retrieves all inspections where minimal pretesting was done. You may use the NOT operator with this field (i.e., !=none) to retrieve all entries that have not been pretested a specified amount.

FirstMtg:

The date of the first inspection meeting, in the form mm/dd/yy. You may also use operators with the date. For example, typing ">03/31/95" retrieves all inspection entries whose first meeting was after March 31, 1995.

LastMtg:

The date of the last inspection meeting, in the form mm/dd/yy. You may also use operators with the date. For example, typing ">03/31/95" retrieves all inspection entries whose last meeting was after March 31, 1995.

HSF/NS:

The number of Highest Severity Faults divided by the Normalized Size of the material inspected. Normalized Size is in hundreds of pages or KNCSL. You may also use comparative operators with the field. For example, searching for "greater than 5" retrieves all inspection entries whose HSF/NS was more than 5.

Prep Rate:

Preparation rate for the inspection. This is determined by dividing number of pages or KNCSL by the total preparation time (see "Prep Time" above). You may also also use operators with this rate. For example, typing "<6" retrieves all inspection entries whose preparation rate was less than 6.

Insp Rate:

Inspection rate for the inspection. This is determined by dividing number of pages or KNCSL by the total inspection time (see "Insp Time" above). You may also also use operators with this rate. For example, searching for "less than 6" retrieves all inspection entries whose inspection rate was less than 6.

Spcl Prep:

Preparation time of the optional special participant chosen by the project, in hours. You may also also use operators with this time. For example, searching for "less than 6" retrieves all inspection entries whose special participant preparation time was less than 6 hours.

Enter values for as many fields as you like; COMPAS retrieves all inspection entries that match the field values that you specify.

Once you have entered values for the complete query, either press "return" or select the OK button. COMPAS will retrieve all inspection entries specified by the query and display them back in a new window.
