MR Search
There are three ways to search for and retrieve MR entries
with COMPAS. You can query on:
- the unique ID assigned to the document,
- the unique MR number, or
- other MR attributes,
Attributes are pieces of information about the MR given when the MR
is entered into COMPAS such as the author, title, date entered, size,
severity, and so on.
This window shows the fields that you use to query for a set of MRs.
If you leave a field blank, you will retrieve MR entries for every
possible value of that field. Conversely, entering values for
any of the MR entry fields will restrict the search to those values.
Compound Queries: Add additional (multiple) lines to your search using the command buttons:
"And" or "Or".
Complex Expressions: You may click on the parenthesis column(s) for each row
in your query to toggle the parentheses on or off in order to create complex
groupings in your search specification.
Following are definitions of the fields in this window:
- MR number:
- The unique COMPAS MR number assigned to the MR
entry. For example, typing "1234" retrieves
the MR entry for COMPAS MR 1234. If you enter
a value for this field, you will go directly to
the MR Detail window and bypass the list of MRs
window.
- System:
- The name of the system or project for the document.
For example, typing "sys85" in this field retrieves
all MR entries that have been created for documents
for System 85. Select the DownArrow button for this
field to get a menu of choices. You may use all
relations such as "not equal to" with this field
to retrieve all entries that are
NOT a particular system.
- Release:
- The project release for the document MR. For example,
typing "R2V5" in the field retrieves all MR entries
whose project release is "R2V5". This field is often
used in combination with the System field. Select
the DownArrow button to get a menu of choices for this
field. You may use the exclusive relation with this field
(i.e., "is not equal to" "R2V5") to retrieve all entries that are NOT
a particular release.
- Subsys:
- The name of the project subsystem for the document MR.
For example, typing "switch" in the field retrieves
all MR entries whose project subsystem is "switch."
This field is often used in combination with the
System and Release fields. Select the DownArrow button
to get a menu of choices for this field. You may use
exclusive relations such as "is not equal to" "switch"
to retrieve all entries that are NOT
a particular subsystem.
- Doc Type:
- The type of the document. For example, typing "design"
in this field retrieves all design-type documents.
Select the DownArrow button for this field to get a
menu of choices. You may use the exclusive relation with
this field (i.e., "is not equal to" "design") to retrieve all entries
that are not a certain type.
- COMPAS ID:
- The unique COMPAS ID assigned to a document.
This ID should appear on the title line of
the physical printed document. For example,
typing "1000" retrieves all MRs for the
document with COMPAS ID 1000.
- MR Type:
- The type of change requested for an MR. For example,
typing "enh" in this field retrieves all enhancement
document MRs. Select the Item to get a
menu of choices for this field.
- Category:
- The class of user who found the problem. There are
categories such as administration, customer, developer,
test, and so on. For example, searching for "dev_found"
retrieves all MR found by the development staff.
Select the Item to get a menu of choices
for this field.
- Severity:
- The severity of an MR. Valid values are usually
from 1 to 4 where the value of 1 is the highest
severity. Select the Item for this
field to get a menu of choices.
- Status:
- The status of the document MR. You may use exclusive
relations with the status. For example, searching for
"is not equal to" "closed" retrieves all document
MR entries that are not closed.
Select the Item to get a
menu of choices.
- Comment:
- This is a free-format field. Refer to your project
methodology to determine how the project has decided
to use this field.
- Assigned:
- The person assigned to provide a solution to an
MR. A person is usually assigned to an MR when
the status of the MR is changed to the status of
"assigned". The value of this field is automatically
set to the owner of the document that
the MR was written against. The value of this
field is a login id. For example, typing "hjb"
in this field retrieves all MRs assigned to the
person with the login "hjb".
- Creator:
- The person who created the MR. For example, typing
"hjb" retrieves all MRs created by "hjb".
- Created:
- The date an MR was created, in the form mm/dd/yy.
You may also user operators with the date. For
example, searching for "is greater than" "01/21/90"
in this field retrieves all MRs that were created after
January 21, 1990.
- Abstract:
- Any relevant part of the abstract or summary of the MR.
All MR entries with the entered pattern in the abstract
(both upper and lower case) will be retrieved. For
example, typing "isdn" retrieves all MRs where isdn
appears in the abstract in either upper or lower case.
- StatDate:
- The date on which the status was changed for the
document MR, in the form mm/dd/yy. You may also
use relations with the status date. For example,
searching for "is greater than" "07/21/89" retrieves all MR entries whose
status was changed after July 21, 1989. This field
is often used with the Status field.
- VerFixed:
- The version of the document that fixed this MR. This
field will automatically be updated when a new document
version is delivered to COMPAS and the document is in
the status of chg_ctl.
- Fixed:
- The date that the MR must be fixed in the form
mm/dd/yy. You may also use relations with the date.
An example would be: searching for "is less than" " 07/21/90"
in this field retrieves all MRs that must be fixed before July 21,
1990.
Enter values for as many fields as you like; COMPAS retrieves all MR
entries that match the field values that you specify. When you have
finished entering your query specification, select the "OK" button or
press the return key. COMPAS retrieves all MR entries that match your
query specification.
